Privacy Policy
Last Updated: March 1, 2026
Task Tally ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting the privacy of all users, including children. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and disclose information when you use the Task Tally mobile application ("App"). Please read it carefully.
Task Tally is a family chore and allowance tracking app. It is used by parents and guardians ("Parents") who create family accounts, and by children ("Child Users") who access the app under parental supervision through a child account created and controlled by the Parent.
1. Information We Collect
From Parents and Guardians
- Account information: Username, email address, and password (stored as a secure hash).
- Family data: Names or labels for child profiles, chore descriptions, and allowance amounts you enter into the app.
- Device information: A push notification token associated with your device, used solely to send you app alerts (e.g., chore completions requiring approval).
- Subscription information: Subscription status and billing period dates. Payment transactions are processed entirely by Google Play; we do not receive or store payment card information.
From Child Users
Child accounts are created exclusively by a Parent or Guardian. We collect the following information about child users solely to provide app functionality:
- Username chosen by the parent for the child's account.
- Chore activity: Chore completion status, approval history, and earned allowance balances.
- Photos (optional, premium feature): Images submitted by a child as proof of chore completion. These are stored on our secure servers and are accessible only to the parent account holder.
- Device information: A push notification token if the child uses the app on their own device, used solely to send chore-related alerts.
We do not collect a child's real name, home address, phone number, email address, social security number, or any other information beyond what is listed above. We do not collect information from children for advertising purposes.
2. Children's Privacy and COPPA Compliance
Task Tally is designed for family use and is intended to be used by children only under the direct supervision of a parent or guardian. We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
Parental Consent: A parent or guardian must create the family account and explicitly set up any child profile within the app. By creating a child account, the parent provides verifiable consent for the limited collection of that child's activity data as described in Section 1. We do not allow children to create their own accounts independently.
Parental Rights: Parents and guardians have the right to:
- Review the personal information collected from their child at any time through the app.
- Request correction of inaccurate information by updating it directly in the app.
- Request deletion of their child's account and all associated data by contacting us at support@gettasktally.com. We will fulfill such requests within 30 days.
- Refuse further collection of their child's information by deleting the child's profile from within the app.
No Advertising to Children: We do not use child user data for behavioral advertising, interest-based advertising, or any marketing purposes. We do not share child user data with advertising networks or data brokers.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect solely to:
- Provide core app functionality: tracking chores, managing allowance balances, and sending notifications.
- Authenticate users and maintain account security.
- Process and manage subscription status.
- Send transactional push notifications and email alerts (e.g., chore approval needed, password reset).
- Diagnose technical issues and improve app stability.
We do not use your information for advertising, sell it to third parties, or use it for any purpose beyond operating the App.
4. Data Sharing and Third-Party Services
We do not sell your personal data. We share limited data only with the following service providers who help us operate the App, each of whom is contractually bound to protect your information:
- Amazon Web Services (AWS): Our backend servers and database run on AWS infrastructure. Chore photos are stored in AWS S3. Password reset emails are sent via AWS Simple Email Service (SES).
- Google Firebase: Used to deliver push notifications to your device. Your device's push notification token is transmitted to Firebase for this purpose.
- Google Play Billing: Subscription purchases are handled by Google Play. We receive only your subscription status and billing period dates - not your payment details.
Beyond these service providers, we do not disclose your information to any other third parties, except as required by law.
5. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on secure servers hosted on Amazon Web Services. We implement industry-standard security measures including encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS), hashed password storage, and access controls. While we take reasonable precautions, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.
6. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete a child's profile through the app, that child's data is permanently removed from our systems within 30 days. If you delete your parent account, all associated family data - including all child profiles - is permanently deleted within 30 days. You may request account deletion by contacting us at support@gettasktally.com.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have additional rights regarding your personal data, including the right to access, correct, or delete information we hold about you. To exercise these rights, please contact us using the information below. We will respond within 30 days.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes - especially those affecting how we handle children's data - we will notify you through the app or by email before the changes take effect. Continued use of the App after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
